RAIPUR,
The General Body Meeting (GBM) was started on a rocky note as Opposition corporators held a protest in front of Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) Speaker to demand debate on the issue of roads damaged owing to pipeline works and alleged unlawful amendments in list of agendas to be tabled in GBM.
Opposition corporators exhibited anger over the slow works of pipeline installations under AMRUT Scheme. Opposition leaders said citizens are dealing with a lot of problems owing to the trenches dug for the pipelines. Leader of Opposition Minal Chaubey also slammed ruling Congress for renaming the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana as
Mor Makaan Mor Aas, yet failing to provide any home to around 22000 slum dwellers dislodged from different places. Replying to Chaubey, MiC member Gyanesh Sharma said there are many homes, which were built earlier, are falling apart for want of occupants. So, they are trying to allot these vacant homes to needy families, first. So far, not a single home has been built under the Mor Makaan Mor Aas scheme. Minal Chaubey and Mrityunjai Dubey also cornered the ruling party over the issue of lack of funds for development works in the wards. Chaubey and Mrityunjai Dubey attacked Congress corporators, saying there is an available fund of Rs 16 crores accrued from interest. This fund could be given to the Corporators to undertake important works in their wards. Opposition and ruling corporator also traded barbs over the inclusion of an agenda that wasn't approved in the Mayor-in-Council meeting. Minal Chaubey pointed out the glaring error in the date, according to which the agenda was cleared on September 28, 2022. Amidst the opposition furor, a congress Corporator Anwar Hussain also attacked the RMC officials, alleging them of issuing money to some contractors who hadn't yet finished their projects.
