 joy of giving

HUMAN beings are the most intelligent creatures. But we are voracious about our needs. It’s Mother Nature who gives us almost everything and never expects anything in return. Nature is motivation, inspiration and the epitome; if we want to learn the art of giving. The easiest looking thing it may seem, but very few people can give. Because when you bestow, you receive happiness - a feeling which is hard to put into words. The satisfaction which is experienced is greater than the person receiving it from us. This is the power of giving. Giving makes us happy, it brings a sense of dignity and fulfillment to life. It is well said that giving is a blessing that transcends the darkness and brings light within you. And it enlightens the lives of people around us.
As the famous words of Anne Frank on giving goes like this “No one has ever become poor by giving.”
How well a 14-year-old girl, described the essence of giving. while being in the Holocaust, she understood life, she saw human behaviour and emotions in a raw and real sense. It is an act of love towards any person or the society we live in. “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give,” celebrates the true essence of giving. The blissful feeling is acknowledged when you give without expecting anything in return. When you do that, that’s when you become a human, in true means with God’s grace. If God has allowed us to be in a situation where we can give then we should try to bring change by such an act of kindness. Being able to give is a privilege, we should avail of the benefits of this. While giving something, we have an incredible feeling, happiness so rare that we don’t experience while receiving. Because giving makes us happy and kind people.
It should be practised by everyone if possible. It can be anything, doesn’t necessarily mean to be charity. Feeding to the hungry, giving used clothes to the needy, books to read, providing shelter to the homeless, educating the illiterate and piece of advice to the naive person. Many things can be done easily on a personal level. While there are NGOs who work for needy people, by working with them we can help them and acquire the joy of giving. We know that life is a boomerang…And what goes around comes around. “What we give is what we get.” So, do more acts of kindness, help others, be grateful and give as much as you can. Cause your present deeds will decide your future. Whether it will be bright or not?
To the most amazing thing, I love to do which gives one a thorough sense of contentment to the soul. The joy of giving is indeed wonderful. Give more and certainly, you will receive more than you gave. Ending with this meaningful ‘doha’ of Sant Kabir: “Daan Diye Dhan Naa Ghate, Nadi Ne Ghate Neer Apni Aankhon Dekh Lo, Yon Kya Kahe Kabir.” The goodness of giving is beautifully summed up in this couplet. And how its greatness makes the giver great is beyond words. So, next time you give something, give all whole heartedly.
