Flouting the law and playing with life for a few likes on social media, a group of youngsters, on Tuesday, found themselves in the police station for performing daredevil stunts on city roads with half a dozen cars. The police took suo-moto action against the youngsters after they shared a video of the stunts on Instagram.
The youngsters, mostly from well-to-do families, were routinely performing the stunts in Futala and Sadar areas. Most of the cars have been seized by the police and a case was registered against them.
Parents of the youngsters were summoned at the police station for statement, DCP Zone II Rahul Madane said.
One of the youngsters, recently, got a job in L&T, while another is already working with HCL Tech. Some are even college students.
One of the youths told ‘The Hitavada’ that, they got ‘inspired’ after seeing videos on Instagram to make such videos.
The youths were leaving home with cars at 4 am and reaching Sadar or Futala area, where they filmed videos of convoys of their moving cars. Some of them were seen sitting on the bonnet or roof of the vehicles. The cars were seen moving parallel on the street with blinkers on and not leaving space for other vehicles. Adding music to the videos, one of the youngsters was seen performing ‘Heropanti’ on the streets. The youths also put captions for their girlfriends in the videos.
After getting information about the students, CP Amitesh Kumar directed DCP Madane to take stern action against the youths. The police immediately identified the vehicles and called the youths at the police station with their parents.
The youths got nervous after reaching the police station and started apologizing to the police for the ‘Heropanti’ style stunts. The police instructed parents of the youths to keep a watch on the activities of their children.
A case under Sections 279 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) read with Sections 181 (3) and 194 (b) of Motor Vehicle Act (MVA) was registered by Ambazari Police.
