With the roll out of Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime in the country, the number of cases pertaining to fake GST invoices have increased manifold across the country.
“The issuing of fake GST invoices is as good as printing fake currency. This offence is punishable under the provisions of Indian Penal Code (IPC). Hence, it is requested to issue the directions to field formations to file the FIR with Police/CBI to punish the tax evaders and to control the tax evasion on this account,” said Sanjay Thul, President of Association of Social and RTI Activist (ASRA).
Sanjay Thul is also President of All India Federation of Customs, Central Excise and GST SC/ST Employees Welfare Organisation. A resolution regarding this matter has been sent to Chairman of Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC), Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance suggesting that instructions should be issued to field formations to file FIR against such tax evaders.
He said that the GST field formations should be given orders to file FIR against the tax evaders who are issuing the fake tax invoices and those who have taken the credit on the fake invoices.
