RAIPUR,
Succumbing to political overtones over deteriorating law and order in State Capital, which witnessed a sharp rise in the incidents of body and property offences, Raipur Police finally decided to respond to it with a befitting and surprise early morning crackdown on Thursday.
Armed to teeth and in numbers, multiple teams of local police on Thursday carried out search operations to dig out hardened criminals from their hideouts and bases, spread across various densely populated and isolated parts of the city. The crackdown saw police force netting in over 160 hardened criminals, many of whom facing execution of permanent arrest warrants and some even running large scale organised crime of betting, gambling, illicit liquor and drug peddling. It is pertinent here to mention that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Spokesperson Kedar Gupta couple of days Gupta slammed Baghelled Government alleging that the streets of the capital city were marred by bloody violence as two youths were stabbed to death and gunshots fired. Lashing out heavily at Congress Government over deteriorating law and order in Raipur, Gupta also charged Chief Minister Baghel’s Government failure to check the rise of heinous crimes, as the BJP Spokesman also cited a similar statewide phenomenon with 1700 people being killed in the past oneand-a-half years. Many districts recorded on average one murder every day. Raipur registered the highest number of 119 homicides, Raigarh 110, Jashpur 102, Bilaspur 101 and Surguja also registered 101 homicides, he alleged.
After facing massive criticism over double-murder and stabbing near the central jail here, Raipur Police arrested 160 offenders by launching an early morning crackdown as a cosmetic move. “Separate teams involving 100 police personnel this morning launched a crackdown simultaneously at separate locations in Raipur resulting in the arrest of 160 offenders. The arrested offenders include history-sheeters, rowdies, habitual offenders and those indulged in cannabis peddling, gambling and other crimes,” said Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Abhishek Maheshwari. Meanwhile, 60 persons were arrested with knives while 12 persons were held with 34 kilogram of cannabis, the ASP said, elaborating that from the possession of arrested accused persons, police seized two four-wheelers, one motorcycle and over a dozen of mobile handsets. Those arrested with contraband were booked under relevant Section of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, the officer added. The arrested offenders, includes, Dilip Mishra, Mukesh Bania, Mehandi Hasan, Muskaan Ratre and others, averred a police source. Meanwhile, the police teams also carried out the verification of people, particularly tenants, residing at BSUP colonies and other vulnerable places, the officer said. To send a message that criminals will be dealt with iron hand to maintain peace in the city, Raipur Police paraded the arrested accused persons on streets.
