FORMER two-time Ranji Trophy and Irani Cup winners Vidarbha created a First-Class cricket record, on Thursday.
The Akshay Wadkar-led side defended 73 runs target set for Gujarat in style as they bundled out the visitors for a meagre 54 runs on the penultimate day of their match at Jamtha.
This was the lowest total defended in First-Class cricket. The previous lowest was 78, defended by Bihar against Delhi in Jamshedpur way back in 1948-1949.
The architects of Vidarbha’s record-setting victory were two left-arm spinners, 50-match veteran Aditya Sarvate and 20-year-old Harsh Dubey who shared all the 10 wickets. While Sarvate took 11 wickets in the match, Dubey took five in the match with three in the second innings. Vidarbha were bundled out for 74 in the first innings and Gujarat managed 256 taking a first innings lead of 182 runs. Vidarbha then posted 254 setting a target of 73 runs which Gujarat failed to achieve.
