Children go to school amid dense fog; parents demand extending holidays

All missionary CBSE schools across the city reopened their campus after ten days winter vacation on Monday. Many primary students were seen going to school amid dense fog on Monday morning. Many parents also avoided to send their ward to school in cold conditions. With beginning of New Year, temperature in all the parts of State is declining. Night temperature in all districts are below 10 degrees Celsius and a few cities have minimum temperature below 5 degrees Celsius as well. There was dense to medium fog in several city on Monday morning but schools continued their class even for toddlers. Parents said that there should be holiday declare by the District Education Office (DEO). Talking to ‘The Hitavada’, Anupama Tiwari, parent of Carmel Convent Senior Secondary School said, “My daughter is there in class 2. I was expecting a holiday message from district administration and kept on checking my phone early morning. But there were no message and I avoided to send by ward to school. It was dense fog and visibility was very low. It was no safe at all send the younger children.”
After conducting exams, CBSE schools declared winter vacation from December 23. Parents said that every year school keep winter vacation till January 3 and schools reopen from January 4 but this year they reopened the school two days earlier. Another parent Rose Dante said, “District administration has said to keep the school timing after 8:30 am but this is not sufficient for the toddlers. Either there should be holiday in such biting cold or schools should start their session after 10 am.”
