Ahead of the two-day visit of President of India Droupadi Murmu to Nagpur, during which she will address the 111th convocation ceremony of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) on December 2, Maharashtra’s Higher and Technical Education Department has issued Government Resolutions (GRs) of various projects of the university. The GRs were pending since long. Two years ago, MLC Adv Abhijit Wanjari had raised a demand with the then Mahavikas Aghadi Government to sanction Rs 100 crore fund as RTMNU completed 100 years of its existence. After the approval by the then Government, RTMNU had prepared a proposal of Rs 107.07 crore. V-C Dr Subhash Choudhari gave a detailed proposal wherein he had asked Rs 31.58 crore for Technology and Energy Park, Rs 26.95 crore for Technical Skill Development Centre, Rs 30.27 crore for world-class inter-sports complex, Rs 4.27 crore for ancient history and archaeological museum, Rs 13 crore for Gondi and other tribal languages chair centre and Raje Bakht Bulandshah Centre.

The State Government first gave nod to three projects, Technical Skill Development Centre, Sports Complex and Ancient History and Archaeological museum. But, it did not issue any official GR since then. The construction work of all these three projects has already begun. Since the amount involved in these projects was not released, RTMNU found it difficult to take projects ahead.

Energy Park was major so it took a little longer to get it approved. RTMNU had given an estimation of Rs 31.28 crore for Energy Park but Government raised the amount to Rs 44.12 crore and sanctioned it earlier. Rs 20 crore has been sanctioned for Technology and Energy Park, Rs 5 crore for Technical Skill Development Centre and Rs 5 crore for Archaeological Museum to be constructed near the Department of Ancient History and Archaeology.
