Pair of cheetahs released into wild of Kuno Park

A pair of cheetahs Oman and Asha brought from Namibia during September 2022 were finally released in the wild of Kuno National Park. The pair is free to form a territory in 748 sq km area. Male cheetah Oman was released at 10 am while female Asha was released at 5 pm. While releasing the cheetah, NTCA representatives, PCCF JS Chauhan, WII and senior forest officials were present. Decision to release the cat in the wild has been taken by the task force.
Officials said that after releasing both the cheetahs in the wild, monitoring team sighted them running together. CCF Uttam Sharma said that task force has decided to release remaining six cheetahs in the wild. After a gap of two days, another pair of cheetah will be released. Asha and Oman were living together in the big enclosure from January 22.
These two cats have good bonding and they preferred to stay together in the enclosure. Concerned over the bonding of two cheetahs, task force team decided to release them together.
Second lot of 12 cheetahs were brought to Kuno from South Africa. They are still enclosed in quarantine enclosure. Experts team formed for cheetah are paying special attention on 12 cheetahs brought to Kuno National Park from South Africa on February 18. The team has made special safety arrangement for cheetahs. A team from Namibia and South Africa is also keeping an eye on cheetah for their health issues. The 12 cheetahs have been kept in 10 different quarantine enclosures. In two enclosures, two male cheetahs have been kept. All the five female cheetahs have been kept in five different enclosures. A team of nine experts, including four from Namibia and five from South Africa are there in Kuno to monitor the health of cheetah. The team is also checking health of eight cheetahs who were brought from Namibia in September 2022.
