Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has accused the Enforcement Directorate (ED) of attempting to implicate him in an alleged liquor scam. Baghel stated that the ED is acting as an agent of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and trying to link his name to the scam.
He also alleged that there is a nexus between the ED and the distillers, and the BJP is protecting them. Baghel demanded a fair investigation into the matter and stated that the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) will take action.
He added that he is seeking advice from legal experts against the alleged illegal actions of the ED. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has taken a strong stance against the actions of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the state, stating that the agency's investigations into scheduled affairs such as extortion and corruption are illegal and against the basic spirit of the federal structure. According to Baghel, legal experts have advised that the ED can only investigate money laundering cases under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), and therefore its actions in investigating original cases like the police are not permissible. “We are taking advice from legal experts against the illegal actions of the ED. Preparations will be made to take action against it,” said Baghel.
He also said that the ED has not taken action against the distillers who have been benefited by the Excise Tax invasion and they have become approvers instead of being charged, said the Chief Minister. In response to a query about the Karnataka assembly election, Baghel said that the Congress party would win and form its government. He also discussed the political situation and preparation for the upcoming assembly election with AICC General Secretary Kumari Selja during their meeting. Baghel further stated that he is receiving an overwhelming response in the Bhent Mulaqat programme, and no complaints related to caste certificates, health, and revenue have been received during the programme. He also added that Swami Atmanand English Medium Schools are getting a positive response.
