THE demons in reference are fear of uncertainty and greed, these dangerous demons are the root causes of all unrest in society. Fear of uncertainty and greed are two of the most powerful demons in the world. They can cause people to make bad decisions, hurt others, and to even destroy their own lives. Fear of uncertainty is causing people to make wrong decisions in all aspects of life. People are uncertain about their businesses, jobs, and their children’s future. The fear of uncertainty pushes them to take shortcuts to pacify their fear, which ultimately leads to greed. Greed is the desire for more than what one needs. The desire can be for wealth, power, possessions, and status. Greed manipulates the mindset, hijacks all thought processes, and turns the person into an avaricious individual.
I have seen persons having good reputations in their profession, turned greedy and ultimately had to bow down in guilt of misconduct, now living with tarnished esteem. This disgrace percolates into their family and makes their lives miserable too. As person becomes more materialistic and greedy, stress becomes a damaging element in their life, stress builds up while trying to protect the earned wealth, to cover up malpractices, to evade Government agencies, All this induced stress leads to damaged health. Here we look at what we can do to battle the demons and become successful exorcist! The good news is that we can fight these demons successfully. We can overcome the fear of uncertainty by learning to live in the present moment. We should be grateful for today, every morning feel happy for the fact that you are alive. Don’t pray to God for a better future, Thank God for keeping you alive at present. Living in the present is a joyful journey. “Tomor-row never comes, it is always today” – Osho had said. Its beautifully explained by Robin Sharma in his book “The monk who sold his Ferrari.”
One day, Julian (The Hero of the story) notices a group of yogis gathered around a small flower, marvelling at its beauty. He thinks to himself that it’s just a small flower and wonders why they are so fascinated by it. When he asks the yogis about this, they explain that they are fully present at the moment and are able to appreciate and be fascinated by the beauty, texture, fragrance, colour, and symmetry of the flower. They are not weighed down by regrets about the past or worries about the future, but rather they live in the present moment and find joy and contentment in the simple things around them. We can overcome greed by learning to be content with what we have. Fear of uncertainty and greed can be overcome by practising mindfulness, living in a blissful present, and practising gratitude. These wonderful practices are simple yet powerful, all of us shall embark to embrace these practices to make our lives simple and beautiful. It’s time to recall – Rabindranath Tagore’s quote “The greed for fruit misses the flower”.
