Chhattisgarh is currently experiencing severe scorching conditions, with temperatures hovering around 42 degrees Celsius. The State is expected to face a heat wave-like situation in several districts on May 21 and 22. Despite light rainfall in some areas, there has been no significant decrease in the soaring temperatures. Jagdalpur received the highest amount of rainfall during the day, with 27.4mm. Mana (Airport area) in the capital city witnessed 4.8mm of rainfall, while Raipur recorded 1.2mm on Friday. The Meteorological Department, considering the prolonged period of extreme heat in the past week, has issued a warning for heat wave-like conditions to persist in the districts of Raipur, Durg, Bilaspur, Mungeli, Korba, Raigarh, Janjgir, and Balodabazar on May 21. There is no immediate relief in sight, as isolated areas in Bilaspur, Korba, and Mungeli districts are expected to experience the heat wave-like conditions on May 22.
Meanwhile, Tilda and Shakti witnessed the peak of summer heat during the day, with the local Automated Rain Gauge recording a scorching maximum temperature of 44.8 degrees Celsius. Among the major cities, Rajnandgaon reported the highest temperature of 43.0 degrees Celsius, followed by Bilaspur at 42.6 degrees Celsius and Raipur at 42.0 degrees Celsius.
Although there is currently no immediate respite from the blistering conditions, the Meteorological Department has forecasted light rainfall at one or two places in State on May 20. Expect overcast conditions with light rainfall accompanied by lightning in the evening or night hours in Raipur on Saturday.
