The number of flights coming from other cities and facilities at Raja Bhoj Airport has increased, so the four-year-old record of people flying from here has been broken.
Before the COVID-19 period, an average of 4,000 passengers were travelling daily from Bhopal. In 2019, the maximum number of 4,070 passengers flew in a single day. This record has been broken on May 20. On this day, 4,159 passengers took flights from Bhopal to different cities. Recently, flights have started from Bhopal to cities like Jaipur, Udaipur and Ahmedabad. Raipur Udan has been increased from three days a week to seven days.
Seeing the enthusiasm of the passengers, airlines companies have now started operating Boeing and air bus level aircraft instead of small ATR aircraft. All the three aircraft of Air India are of airbus level. Their passenger capacity is up to 200. Only 72 passengers can board the ATR aircraft. Indigo is also operating Boeing aircraft on Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad etc. routes. Their capacity is 180 passengers.
Ramji Awasthi, Airport Director, said that there was a time when only corporate and affluent families used to travel by air. Now, the situation has changed. Now, the middle class is also fulfilling the dream of travelling by plane once in a year. This is the reason that passengers on the domestic route are continuously increasing. Bhopal was ranked second in the country in the last customer satisfaction survey. Bhopal airport has been made passenger-friendly. This survey shows that the increased facilities are also attracting the passengers. Bhopal-Goa flight is also starting from Tuesday. The number will increase further, he added.
