The Disciplinary Action Committee (DAC) of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has expelled Dr Ashish Deshmukh, Member of Parliamentary Board, MPCC, from the primary membership of the party for next six years. In a letter, Prithviraj Chavan, President of DAC, stated, “The Committee has gone through the reply sent by Dr Ashish Deshmukh. But members of committee did not find the reply satisfactory. So, under the rules of Constitution of Congress, Committee has decided to expel Dr Deshmukh for six years from the party’s primary membership.” The DAC termed the activities by Dr Ashish Deshmukh as anti-party.
Dr Ashish Deshmukh had been making statements against Congress, its top leadership, its policies since last few months. Ashish Deshmukh had openly supported the allegations leveled by Bharatiya Janata Party against Rahul Gandhi. He went ahead and asked Gandhi to apologise to the OBC Community. Deshmukh continued to make scathing attack on MPCC President. He accused that MPCC President receives money from the current Maharashtra Chief Minister.
Disciplinary Action Committee had on April 5, 2023 found that the charges against Deshmukh serious. According to Congress leadership, Deshmukh was constantly criticising the Party leadership publicly. The DAC has sought reply from Deshmukh to the show cause notice within three days of the receipt of this notice as to why he should not be expelled from the primary membership of the Congress Party forthwith. In his reply Dr Deshmukh had pointed out that Congress had numerous OBC leaders in Maharashtra and other states too and the Party had not done anything in giving them right share.
