The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the Congress Government in Chhattisgarh of turning the State into an ATM for the Gandhi family after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) busted a liquor scam worth over Rs 2,000 crore. The ED arrested Anwar Dhebar in connection with the scam, which BJP claims is the biggest such scam in the country, even bigger and more serious than Kejriwal’s Delhi liquor scam.
State President and MP Arun Sao, Leader of Opposition Narayan Chandel and MLA Saurabh Singh held a press conference on Monday and claimed that the Congress Government was looting the people of Chhattisgarh to fill the coffers of 10 Janpath. The BJP leaders alleged that the government has been robbing the State of its resources like coal, rice, cement, sand and transfer scam and that the liquor scam was the latest example of its corruption. According to the BJP leaders, Anwar Dhebar created an organised criminal syndicate on the instructions of his master, under which the corruption money was wired. The ED release stated that these people are not the ultimate beneficiaries of the scam amount and that the remaining amount was sent to their Political Master.
The BJP leaders claimed that a large number of raw and country liquor had been sold through 800 government shops across the State, which cannot be sold legally. The government exchequer was defrauded of billions by this liquor, and the lives of the people of the State were also compromised. Despite increasing the price of liquor by 50 to 80%, and a large number of deaths due to raw and other spurious liquor, the government kept showing a decrease in liquor revenue. The truth was that most of the liquor money was directly pocketed by the political gangsters.
Sao stated that a simple and naive tribal minister, Kawasi Lakhma, had been used like a pawn in the game. Lakhma was made the department minister so that he could not interfere in this syndicate. Similarly, Beverage Corporation’s chairman post was also mysteriously kept vacant. The BJP demanded that all cases related to the scam should be heard on a fast track Court outside Chhattisgarh.
