A devastating fire engulfed an Indian Oil Petrol Pump in Butibori, located on the Nagpur-Chandrapur highway, on Friday late evening. A container truck was charred in the fire, which reportedly broke out after the truck’s tyre burst, police said. According to a police official, the fire started out around 8 pm when an employee was filling diesel into a container laden with papers. Suddenly, a tyre of the container burst which led to the ignition. The flames engulfed the entire truck extending rapidly to the fuel-filling machines.
Recognising the danger, other customers present at the petrol pump hurried away with their vehicles to ensure their safety. Their swift action prevented any injuries or casualties from occurring, police said. In response to the emergency, two fire tenders from Butibori MIDC rushed to the location and initiated a prompt firefighting operation. Firefighters battled the fire for approximately two hours before successfully gaining control over the flames. However, the diesel container sustained severe damage and was completely charred.
Police Inspector Bhimaji Patil of Butibori police station said that they were conducting a thorough investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the fire. Fortunately, there were no injuries or fatalities reported, and the swift response of the fire department prevented the fire from spreading further, he said.
