The mango prices of Baiganpalli variety have declined in the markets due to good supplies from Andhra Pradesh. This has put smiles on the faces of housewives who like the fruit and eat it on ripening or make various delicacies like juices and pickles for the household. At present, the Baiganpalli mango variety prices have dropped between Rs 60 per kg and Rs 100 per kg in the Kalamna wholesale market, as compared to its high of Rs 150 per kg. In retail, the Baiganpalli mango variety is available at Rs 120 per kg to Rs 160 per kg, depending on the size, colour and quality. “When the Baiganpalli mango variety came to the markets in the month of November 2023 it was being sold at Rs 150 per kg. The fall in mango prices can be attributed to the bulk supplies coming in the wholesale market,” said Anand Dongre, President of Nagpur Fruit Dealers Association while speaking to The Hitavada.

 

According to him, bulk supplies of the famous Baiganpalli mango variety is coming from Kurnool, Warangal and other districts of Andhra Pradesh. This has resulted in a steep fall in prices. On an average about 4,000 to 5,000 crates (each crate comprises of 20 kg) are unloading the orange colour fruit on four days of a week namely Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at the Kalamna market. Apart from this, other local varieties of mango like Langda and the Gawrani Dassahari will be available in various city markets from April 15. Apart from this, the prices of the most exported mango and also known as the king of mangoes Alphanso is available at Rs 500 per dozen to Rs 700 per dozen in the market.
