FULL MARKS To be awarded for confusing question in SSC Science paper

Considering confusion over a question in the SSC exam’s Science paper, Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has decided to allot full marks to the students who attempted the question. Kapil Patil, MLC and President of Samajwadi Ganrajya Party had raised the issue. He had brought the confusion in the answer to the notice of State Board. The question number 1 (B) (i) in the Science paper was ‘Name the atom having smallest size’. This question created confusion.
 
As per the textbook, the correct answer of the question is Helium. But some reference books say the right answer is ‘Hydrogen’. State Board Secretary Anuradha Oak, in a letter sent to Divisional Secretaries of all the Divisional Boards, pointed out that the two answers created confusion. Pune Divisional Board has taken the opinions of subject experts who submited the report. On the basis of the report, the Board decided that both the answers--Helium and Hydrogen are correct. Accordingly, the Board gave ruling that the valuers should give full marks to the students if they have written both the answers--Helium or Hydrogen. Maharashtra State Board has declared that both answers will be considered correct. The notification issued, by Anuradha Oak, Secretary of Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, says, “The board has been informed that there is confusion among students and parents over this particular question from SSC Science 1 paper held on March 18. Considering the situation, it is decided that marks should be given for both answers.”
