The dance of sound

Indian classical music is a reflection of the country’s glorious culture. It has the immense power to heal and transform our body and minds. Music helps us to connect with our inner self, experience divinity and revitalise our energy. It was a grand musical evening, the other day with the famous Sarod player Pt Shankar Bhattacharya (City Line, March 19) who regaled the audience with his captivating performance in various raags that transported them to the higher sphere of life. The atmosphere inside the hall turned electrifying and the capacity audience was still seated.

It seemed for a while that the rain god was immensely pleased and touched by this musical melody. As he descended; the city witnessed thundershowers to drench the earth. The artist seized the opportunity and justified the situation to present one last item in the Raag Miyamalhar and eventually to receive a thunderous applause from the audience. All his presentations and expressive variations revealed a touch of an absolute class and his mastery over the instrument. Unmukh, the cultural wing of the Bengali Education Society deserves praise for organising this classical Sarod recital and also making it a truly memorable one.
