After a couple of spells of rains, thunderstorm and hailstorm in first half of March, entire Vidarbha is now heading towards the scorching summer. On Saturday, Akola and Yavatmal districts of Vidarbha crossed the 40 degrees mark for the first time this year while Nagpur crossed 100 Fahrenheit mark. With 40.5 degrees Celsius, Yavatmal was the hottest place in Maharashtra while Akola of Vidarbha and Malegaon of Madhya Maharashtra were second where the day temperature recorded at 40.4 degrees Celsius. Nagpur, which witnessed rains and thunderstorm in the previous week, witnessed the maximum temperature 38.2 degrees Celsius (100.7 Fahrenheit) which was the third highest of the season after March 12 and 13. On March 12, Nagpur was 38.5 degrees Celsius whereas on the next day it was 38.7 degrees Celsius.
 
Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Nagpur, predicted increased in maximum temperature in coming days and on Holi it may touch the 40 degrees mark in Nagpur. Meanwhile, Akola and Yavatmal are already touched the 40 degrees Celsius mark before the festival of colour and there will be no respite from scorching heat in coming days as the weather will remain dry. Wardha (39.9 degrees Celsius), Washim (39.6 degrees Celsius), Amravati (39.0 degrees Celsius) and Bramhapuri (39.1 degrees Celsius) were almost touched the 40 degrees mark on Saturday. With 36.0 degrees Celsius, Gadchiroli was recorded the lowest maximum temperature on Saturday. The minimum temperature were also on rise in all over Vidarbha as Buldhana and Bramhapuri recorded the highest minimum temperature with 21.5 degrees Celsius on Saturday. Chandrapur, Wardha and Yavatmal were also recorded the minimum temperature above 20 degrees on Saturday. No rainfall were recorded in any part of Vidarbha on Saturday as dry weather is dominating the whole Central India on week end.
 
With increasing temperature, citizens have started using coolers and Air Conditioners in their residence, offices and shops to avoid the summer heat. Whereas, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has started acting on city’s heat action plan. The civic body directed all hospitals in the city to avail special wards to treat heat stroke and other summer related diseases patients during this summer. Gardens in the city will remain open during afternoon times and people can go and sit under the trees to be safe from scorching summer. Municipal Commissioner and the Administrator Dr Abhijit Chaudhary recently chaired a review meeting in which he directed all departments to be ready to tackle the summer heat. He also directed fire and emergency department to be ready for any fire incidents in the city.
