IN YET another incident of reckless driving and poor safety measures on city’s flyovers, a young man and his sister were seriously injured after their moped was hit by a speeding car throwing them off the Pachpaoli bridge on Monday
afternoon. The car driver, who was under the influence of alcohol, has been arrested by Pachpaoli Police. Cops also seized two liquor bottles and a knife from his car. The victims, Mohammad Irfan Salauddin Ansari (30) and his sister Fauziya Ansari (21) were the residents of Nai Basti, Teka. Mohammad Irfan picked up his sister Fauziya from Mominpura and the siblings were returning home on their moped (MH-49/Y-6691) around 3 pm. On Pachpaoli flyover, a speeding Maruti Dzire car (MH-31/BC-1185) collided with their moped. The impact of the collision was so intense that the siblings were thrown off the flyover along with their moped and crashed about 50 feet on the road beneath. After hitting them, the car crashed into the side barricade and damaged it.
 
With serious injuries, Mohammad Irfan and Fauziya were rushed to Mayo Hospital. From there, Fauziya was shifted to a private hospital. Cops rushed to the spot and apprehended the car driver, Rahul Narayan Mangale (41), a resident of Plot No 68, Shrikrishna Nagar, Hudkeshwar, and seized liquor bottles and a knife from his vehicle. Following a complaint lodged by Mohammad Mustafa Ansari (28), a relative of the victims and a resident of 153, Azad Nagar, Nai Basti, Teka, police registered a case under Sections 279,338 of the Indian Penal Code, read with Sections 184, 185 of the Motor Vehicle Act, Section 65(a) of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act, Section 4/25 of the Arms Act, Section 3 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act and 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act, against car driver Rahul Mangale.
