In a tragic incident, a bus belonging to Kedia Distilleries in Kumhari veered off the road. It plunged into an abandoned mine near Mahamaya temple, situated in the jurisdiction of the Kumhari police station in Durg district. Sources on the scene report that the accident resulted in the loss of life of 3 persons and injury to several others who were travelling on the ill-fated bus. Initial reports suggest that there were around 30 persons in the bus Upon receiving the news, senior police officials swiftly mobilised to the location, launching immediate rescue efforts to extricate the bus from the mine. However, the full extent of the situation remains unclear until the vehicle is successfully retrieved. The injured passengers have been taken to the medical centres for treatment. Harish Patil, CSP Chhaoni Police Subdivision informed that the mishap occurred when the bus carrying Kedia company staffers and labourers fell into an abandoned murram mines at Khapri village in Kumhari, Durg on Tuesday evening at about 8:15 pm.
 
Bhilai Chhaoni subdivision police officials and personnel reached the spot and undertook the rescue operation. Two hydra-cranes were summoned to the spot and all the passengers were rescued. All the victims were rushed to Public Health Center in Kumhari and after the first aid the seriously injured were referred to AIIMS and Medical College Hospital, Raipur and also Government Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, Bhilai. The bus was carrying 30 staffers of Kedia company when the mishap occurred. Among the deceased one was a woman who crushed under the bus and died on spot. The police are investigating to ascertain cause of the mishap.
