In the series of action being taken against the mafia active in the field of School Education, the District Administration has conducted raids at different book depots in the city on Tuesday. The District Administration teams conducted raids at Gorakhpur-based Sangam Book Depot, Ukhri Tiraha-based New Radhika Book Palace, Children Book Depot, Naudara Bridge and Radhika Book Depot, Gol Bazar. As per sources, all these raids were conducted following the directives issued by Collector, Deepak Saxena to check selling of textbooks with fake ISBN Numbers. It may be mentioned that ISBN is the acronym for International Standard Book Number. This 10 or 13-digit number identifies a specific book, an edition of a book, or a book-like product (such as an audiobook). Since 1970 each published book has been allocated a unique ISBN. In 2007, assigned ISBNs changed from 10 digits to 13. ISBNs are helpful when you want to find and buy an exact copy of a book. There are unauthorized resellers of ISBNS and this activity is a violation of the ISBN standard.

Following the instructions of Collector Deepak Saxena, the SDMs concerned with Jabalpur Urban and Rural areas are engaged in checking at various book shops at their respective areas. The District Administration is on action mode to break the nexus between private schools and book sellers and publishers. Together they all compel the guardians to purchase study materials and other commodities from particular shops on high rates. The strong action being taken by the District Administration has created lots of hue and cry among the concerned traders. The teams led by SDM, Gorakhpur, Pankaj Mishra, SDM Adhartal, Shivali Singh and SDM Ranjhi, Raghuveer Maravi and comprised the officers from District Education, Revenue and GST Department. It may be mentioned that the District Administration is going to organize a book fair at Shaheed Smarak, Gol Bazar from April 10 to April 14, 2024.
