The State Forest Department, on Thursday, released one tigress, NT-3, into Navegaon Nagzira Tiger Reserve (NNTR) of Gondia district under its Tiger Conservation Translocation programme. Under this programme, eight tigers will be released in NNTR to reduce the man-animal conflict in Chandrapur and Bramhapuri districts. In the first phase of the programme, the Forest Department released two tigresses, brought in from Bramhapuri range, into NNTR last year in the month of May. Now, in the second phase, another tigress was released. This tigress was brought from Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR) of Chandrapur.
 
The tigress was tranquillised on Wednesday by Veterinarian Dr R Khobragade and his trained team from TATR, and she was released in NNTR on Thursday. Before releasing the big cat, the forest team fixed Satellite GPS collar to monitor its movement in the protected area. The previous two tigresses that released last year were also collared by the department. The release of the tigress took place on Thursday evening at Gabha area of NNTR in presence of Dr Pravin Chavhan, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (Wildlife). The command and control room that established in Sakoli will monitor the activities and movement of the tigress 24/7. After monitoring the movement of the tigress, the department will decide and plan to release more tigers in coming days.
 
The process of release of the tigress took place under the supervision of Jairam Gauda R, Deputy Conservator of Forest, Field Director, NNTR. Pramod Kumar Panchbhai, Deputy Conservator of Forest, Gondia; Rahul Gavai, Deputy Conservator of Forest, Bhandara; Pawan Jef, Deputy Director, NNTR; and other senior officials were present during the release.
