Falsehood

“The Bharatiya Janata Party is going to change the Constitution of India after winning the Lok Sabha elections in 2024. ...” - Congress leader Mrs. Sonia Gandhi

THIS statement is a repeat of the refrain of the Opposition camp as part of its election propaganda based fully on falsehood. The statement also betrays the extreme frustration the Opposition camp is experiencing after sensing a clear defeat in the ensuing battle of the ballot. Not one single Opposition leader, let alone Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, has been able to put forth any evidence of whatever nature that suggests the BJP’s intention to twist the Constitution of India once it gets elected for the third time in a row. The campaign managers of the Opposition developed an altogether false perception in a desperate attempt to wean the voters from the BJP leading the centrally-ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA). They have no evidence, they have no Intelligence about the thinking of BJP or the NDA or Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi, and they have no understanding of the constitutional process. Yet, they foist an utter falsehood on the people. They are only spreading canard. That is the only tool they now have in their hands. Mrs. Sonia Gandhi is following that script of falsehood, of malicious political propaganda. So is doing every other leader of the Opposition camp across the country. The purpose is to issue threats of a distortion of the Constitution -- so that a scared electorate rejects Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi lock-stock-and-barrel. Bah ! Time it is now to highlight how the Constitution has been toyed with by earlier regimes headed mostly by the Congress party.

Time it is to tell the people once again how concepts that were not in the original document of the Constitution were introduced into the text because the founding fathers of the Constitution did not find the need to do that originally when the esteemed Constitution Assembly discussed and debated various provisions of what the Constitution of Independent India should contain or include as the basic statute of New India post-Independence. Those visionaries had a clear idea about the form and content of the Constitution as the gospel of New India -- and therefore chose to keep certain concepts away from the document as part of a considered opinion. But the present-day Opposition camp has refused even to acknowledge this reality. And, this is not out of ignorance; this is out of a dangerous plan to spread utter falsehood, so much so that there is enough ground to suspect that they are playing into the hands of some anti-India powers based in foreign lands. The statement of Congress leader Mr. Rahul Gandhi on the floor of the Lok Sabha can be cited as a ground for this profound doubt. He had said, in effect, that India was not at all a nation, but only a “Union of States”.

He very well knew that he was heaping insult on the country’s sense of nationhood and people’s sense of uncompromisable pride in the nation’s long and glorious history that has mountains of evidence to prove the spirit of nationhood. Yet, he chose to make that statement -- in Parliament and also elsewhere -- because he was being goaded by some anti-India powers. The same is the story about the attempt to foist falsehood on the people through dirty propaganda that the BJP is going to distort the Constitution after its third consecutive win in the Lok Sabha election. These people are absolute purveyors of unmitigated falsehood -- without any evidence of whatever nature. They are pushing their dirty agenda by spreading lies about the so-called intentions of the Modi-led BJP -- as if the Prime Minister whispered that secret detail into their ears ! Utter nonsense that only the Opposition can dish out ! Shame on Opposition ! But may this not disturb the common people of India in any manner. For, by now, the true colours of the Opposition have been exposed fully not once but several times.

The common voters know that such falsehood has become the main point of the Opposition’s electoral narrative only after its leaders sensed a clear, impending defeat in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections for which voting will be held for the first phase on April 19, 2024. In this entire essay, the scribe has avoided the use of the new nomenclature of the Opposition camp -- I.N.D.I.A. -- since the combination actually no longer exists and its components are engaged in electoral fights against one another all over the country. This political reality (read ‘frustration’) also reflects in the Opposition’s attempt to spread falsehood about the distortion of the Constitution. No matter all that, every voter senses that the Opposition is fighting a losing battle -- a fact that its leaders privately acknowledge. They know that their dirty propaganda has no power to affect the voter-psychology. They actually know that they have lost the fight !
