STAR boxer of city Alfiya Tarannum Khan Pathan has been selected in the Indian team that will participate in the Under-22 Asian Boxing Championship which is going to be held at Uzbekistan. The championship is going to be hsosted from April 29 to May 6, 2024. Alfiya, who is a regular in the Indian women’s boxing team, is selected on the basis of her excellent trials held last week at ASI, Pune. Alfiya defeated Naina of Haryana in final round of trials by unanimous decision. In the quarter-finals, she defeated Tamil Nadu boxer and then beat a policewomen in the semis.

Alfiya is undergoing training at coaching camp at Patiala. The camp will continue till April 24.

 

Alfiya has been a consistent performer on both national and international stage. She started her medal-winning spree 2016 when she won a silver medal in 80kg at the National School Games and added a gold from the Khelo India Games as well as the Junior Nationals. Since then there is no looking back. In 2021, Alfiya was named as the best boxer in the world after a fans poll conducted by International Boxing Federation. The polls were held after the AIBA Youth Boxing Championships at Kielce in Poland three years ago. Nagpur District Boxing Association wished Alfiya luck for the Asian Championship.
