Borewell Mishap.. Mayank struggles as rescue ops still on in Rewa’s Manika village

The six-year-old, Mayank Kol is still struggling for life into 70-feet deep borewell following over 25-hours of rescue operation in Manika village situated around 85-kms from the district headquarters Rewa. National Disaster and Relief Force (NDRF) and State Disaster and Emergency Relief Force (SDERF) teams along with local police are making all sorts of efforts to save the child. Rescue operation was underway and a horizontal tunnel was being dug to reach and rescue the little boy till late Saturday night. The incident took place in the evening on April 12 when Mayank Kol along with other boys was playing near his house when he plunged into an open borewell at a farm of Heeramani Mishra, who is absconding after the incident. His friends rushed to inform his parents and local police was informed about the incident. Receiving the information of incident, police and administrative officers reached the spot and SDERF was called on the spot.
 
Rewa Collector Pratibha Pal and Superintendent of Police Vivek Singh along with other officers reached the spot and monitored the rescue operation. Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav has expressed his concern over the incident and prayed for the life of Mayank. CM Yadav informed that entire administration is making effort for early rescue of Mayank while all necessary resources are being provided for the rescue. CM Dr Yadav has released an order for taking prompt action to cover the open borewells throughout the State to avoid repetition of such kind of incidents. SHO of Janeh police station, Kanhaiyya Singh Baghel, talking to ‘The Hitavada’, informed that entire police force along with NDRF and SDERF teams are working on war footing to make a horizontal tunnel to reach and rescue the boy under the supervision of senior administrative and police officers.
 
Oxygen supply is being carried out through pipe while a CCTV camera was also lowered to monitor the boy’s condition which could not reach him because of some obstruction. There was no response received from Mayank during the overnight and day-long rescue operation. BJP MLA, Teonthar, Siddharth Tiwari, Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla along with other public representatives reached the spot and met the boy’s parents and assured them for soon rescuing Mayank.
