Six-year-old Mayank Kol lost the battle of life under 42-feet depth of 160-feet bore-well as rescue teams pulled him out on Sunday morning. The 45-hours long restless rescue operation failed in saving the life of kid at Manika village in Teonthar Tehsil, 85-kms from Rewa district headquarters. NDRF and SDERF teams managed to dig long trenches to reach the boy stranded in thick soil into the bore-well but the boy was found unresponsive. In the primary check-up, doctors declared the boy dead 20-25 hours before the rescue.
 
Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Dr Mohan Yadav has expressed his sorrow on untimely death of a little boy. Even after restless efforts of NDRF and SDERF, the boy could not be saved but the government and administration are with the bereaved family members. Bereaved family has been given relief amount of Rs 4 lakh from the Red Cross Society while the government will provide all necessary assistance to the family. CM, Dr Yadav has direction the concerned officers for immediate suspension of Chief Executive Officer of Teonthar Janpad and Sub-Divisional Officer of Public Health Engineering Department, Teonthar for irregularity in shouldering their responsibility. Chief Minister has also appealed the residents to ensure covering of used or unused bore-wells for avoiding repetition of such kind of tragic incident in the state.
 
Collector, Pratibha Pal (IAS) informed that the NDRF, SDERF personnel, administrative and police officers conducted tremendous efforts to save the life of Mayank but disappointingly failed in saving him. Even after facing adverse conditions, rescue team managed to reach the boy but found him unresponsive. The body was sent for post-mortem after conducting Panchnama at District Government Hospital while essential facilities are being provided to the bereaved family members. The incident took place in the evening on April 12 when Mayank Kol along with other boys was playing near his house when he plunged into an open bore-well at a farm of Heeramani Mishra who is absconding after the incident. His friends rushed to inform his parents and local police was informed about the incident. Receiving the information of incident, police and administrative officers reached the spot and SDERF was called on the spot.
