In a significant political development, Nisha Bangre, a former deputy collector in the State, has resigned from the primary membership of the Congress Party. Bangre, who had previously left a promising career in state civil services to pursue politics, expressed her disillusionment with the party’s treatment of women and its failure to provide adequate representation in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2024. In her resignation letter, Bangre criticised the Congress party for what she perceives as a disregard for women’s respect within the party ranks.

“The lack of proper representation of women in Madhya Pradesh in Parliamentary seats is a clear indication of the party’s stance,” she stated. Bangre’s decision comes after being denied a ticket to contest in both the State Assembly elections and the forthcoming general elections. She accused the party of making hollow promises, particularly regarding the Amla (near Betul) assembly seat, which she claims was used as a ploy to lure votes without even an iota of chance of allowing her to contest. Three months earlier, Bangre had sought to return to her government position, sparking rumors of her potential exit from politics. Her recent application for reinstatement has further fuelled such speculations. Bangre’s resignation has raised questions about the Congress Party’s commitment to gender equality and the empowerment of women in politics. Her future endeavours remain focused on promoting the ideas of Baba Saheb and seeking justice for the alleged injustices she has faced.
