It is neither Congress nor BJP’s bastion but the Scindia factor works. As chronology of election results highlights; Vijay Raje revered as RajMata won elections on BJP tickets while late Madhavrao Scindia (her son) also registered victory on behalf of Congress from this seat. It remained intact with national, social or State’s political wave. This seat is also known for intrigue and complex political nature. During 2018 Assembly elections, when anti-incumbency was prevailing against BJP ruled state and Congress formed a government however with a narrow margin, Scindia scion Jyotiradiya Scindia, one of the most prominent Congress leaders from the State. Whose understanding with Gandhi scion Rahul Gandhi was well known, lost Lok Sabha elections held after six months of Assembly elections. Moreover, Scindia was projected as Chief Minister’s face in Assembly elections although senior Congress leader Kamal Nath was chosen for CM’s post.

Jyotiradiya’s defeat was seen as a surprise in political corridors. Remarkably, he lost the election to BJP’s K P Yadav who was referred as Scindia’s loyalist. Behind this electoral rout two factors were attributed by experts. In this social media era, people rejected dynasty’s important Maharaja’s image of the royal family. Another suspicion was on Congress’ internal tussle more about sabotage politics that cast shadow on Gwalior-Chambal region and brought stunning results. Now, major shifts from Scindia’s social engineering to party’s strategies have been made. This time, Scindia becomes ‘Bhai Sahab’ from Maharaja’s image and visiting small houses of party workers, voters where he doesn’t hesitate to dine with them.

In addition to this, BJP’s local and state leadership that used to see defector Scindia camp as parachute candidate has mend its way after being rebuked from Central leadership and now organisation is working to ensure party’s victory here moreover candidates win likewise other parts of the state. Another hurdle of Narendra Singh Tomar section has been pacified after his elevation for the post of Assembly speaker. Overall, the picture is more rosy for Scindia this time. But not easy like rest of the seats of the state where at most of the seats opposition is giving walkover to the BJP.
For this seat, the main opposition Congress party had several rounds of deliberations and fielded Yadvendra Singh Yadav. Keeping Yadav’s family background in mind.

Notably, before assembly elections Yadvendra Singh switched from BJP to Congress. He is the son of BJP MLA and whiling taking Congress membership Yadav alleged that after the entry of Scindia to the BJP, leaders from this constituency were being ignored and feeling disgruntled with the importance accorded to Scindia. Congress’s candidate Yadav’s family members are in BJP, his mother and wife are members in Jila Panchayat and holding top positions in the region. With this act, Congress is trying to woo around more than two lakh voters of Yadav Community. It will be interesting to keep an eye on the political development of this seat, high voltage campaign trail and subsequent election result on June 4.
