PRATHAM Gupta reigned supreme to win the Nagpur District 90th Weekend Open Rapid Chess Tournament organised by Nagpur District Chess Association at NDCA Hall, Sports Complex, Dhanwate National College, Congress Nagar on Sunday. In all, 45 players including 21 ELO rated players of various ages participated in this tournament. Total six rounds were played. A total cash prizes of Rs 5,000 were distributed among top 10 players of the tournament. Gupta in the sixth round match, playing with white pieces, defeated Omprakash Soni on second board to emerge champion of the tournament. Gupta won all his matches. On the top board, last week’s winner Shaunak Badole, also playing with white pieces, got better of Krupal Wanjari. Badole also ended with all wins and six point s in his kitty but the tie-breaker helped Gupta emerge winner.
 
Chandrashekhar Sable was successful in registering victory against Mayur Gupta on the third board. On board number four Nilesh Wasnik defeated Aditya Kamlapurkar to enter top ten. While on board number five Shrikant Bagde playing with white pieces, suffered defeat against Rashmika Maringanti. As many as four players — Omprakash Soni, Rashmika Maringanti, Nilesh Wasnik and Samruddhi Kharabe ended in top ten with five points each. Prizes were distributed at the hands of IA Pravin Pantawane.
