Gadkari emphasised that in his third term, he will work towards bringing development in Nagpur, making it clean and look beautiful and putting it among top five cities in the country. Elaborating how he extended hand to the people living in unauthorised layouts, Gadkari said, “This is the major problem being faced by the people. People were residing in unauthorised layouts since years and have been facing several problems. At several places, we resolved the issue by alloting them ownership rights with the help of State and Central Government. There are still more layouts and Government is working on it to give ownership rights to residents of unauthorised slums on regularisation and help them in construction of new houses. We have already started the work in one of the slum areas in the city and given ownership rights of 500 to 600 houses.” Gadkari made it clear, “At present, 70 to 80 gardens are being developed for seniors. The number will be taken up to 100. These gardens will come up in various parts of the city and these will include existing ones which will be renovated. Modern markets for hawkers, farmers, grain wholesalers and oil merchants will come up at dedicated places in the city, which will also help in reducing traffic congestion.”

“Food zones at various places in the city, 25 restaurants and hawkers zone at Futala, fruit and vegetable zone at Orange city street, organic grain and vegetable market at Wardha Road are being planned. Apart from this, a place has been given for a wholesale grocery market in Kalmana area and its construction has also started. Kalyaneshwar Temple complex in Mahal will be developed at a cost of Rs 91 crore, a logistics park at Sindi will be set up for which Rs 1,200 crore has been earmarked and a truck terminal at four locations in the city will also be developed to prevent traffic congestion,” said Gadkari. “The city is undergoing comprehensive development and works worth Rs 1 lakh crore have been done in the last ten years. Some works are in progress, while others have been completed. New ambitious plans have been planned for the city of Nagpur for the next five years, and after their completion, the city of Nagpur will develop as a new smart city. So far, 68,000 youths have got employment in MIHAN and various companies are investing in it. By December, this number will go to one lakh,” Gadkari commented.

Gadkari also said that new skill development centers will be established in coordination with educational institutions and entrepreneurs to increase employment in the industrial sector. “We tried for Inter Model Station at Ajni but it was opposed so we dropped that idea. Now we will be coming up with a concept of ‘European Square’ to be developed at Ajni. Development of three railway stations, plantation of 2.5 lakh orange trees, textile market at the site of Empress Mill, trolley bus on ring road, development of police quarters, six markets on Mayo to Lakadganj route are also in the plan,” Gadkari explained. “People always demand that I should do something for Vidarbha as I am a Union Minister. Through Advantage Vidarbha, we have planned 5 lakh jobs for Vidarbha youngsters till 2029. Nagpur will not face water shortage till 2070,” Gadkari promised. Gadkari said that creating truck terminals, metro gauge lanes, new 4-lane railway tracks and logistics parks in Nagpur, among other initiatives, will be among his priorities.
