DISTRICT Election Office and Nagpur Municipal Corporation jointly organised a Swimathon, under Mission Distinction on Monday at Manewada Swimming Pool. Over 100 swimmers from Nagpur took part in the initiative taken up by the administration for voters to exercise their right to vote. Deputy Director of Sports, Nagpur Shekhar Patil flagged off the swimming competition which was held in different categories. On this occasion, Arjuna Awardee Vijay Munishwar, District Sports Officer Pallavi Dhatrak, SVEEP Icon and Technical Head of Swimathon Jayant Duble, Gurudas Raut, former Joint Director of Sports Dr Jaiprakash Duble, National Youth Award winner Sanjay Dudhe were also present.
 
The participants of various groups were specially honoured after the competition. Among them Unnati Shambharkar and Nitisha Shambharkar swam for two hours. Sanjay Karia, Abdul Jameel and Nalima Dharkar swam continuously for three hours in the age group above 50 years. Indian disabled cricketer Gurudas Raut, Dilip Bhoyar and others from the group of disabled swimmers Akshay Neware and entire family of Ramtek’s Rishikesh Kimmatkar swam for two hours in the family group. Principal of Ishwar Deshmukh College of Physical Education Dr Sharda Naidu, dentist Dr Tushar Kherde, national level athlete Renu Kaun Sidhu and others also encouraged all the swimmers. Jayant Duble conducted the programme while Sports Officer Maya Duble proposed a vote of thanks.
