After the announcement of former CM Digvijay Singh’s name from Rajgarh, Lok Sabha elections fight become high-powered for this constituency. The BJP has this time renominated its sitting MP Rodmal Nagar from Rajgarh. On Tuesday, Rajya Sabha MP, senior Congress leader and party candidate from Rajgarh Parliamentary constituency Digvijay Singh filed his nomination papers. Notably, Digvijay Singh, the former CM of Madhya Pradesh, represented Rajgarh Lok Sabha in 1984 and 1991. His hometown Raghogarh falls under this constituency. Before filing nomination on Monday, he appealed to workers and supporters to remain among the voters instead being accompanied him at Collectorate office. He said, “Workers should go to their respective polling booths and hold booth committee meetings.” Before reaching to district election office, two-time ex-CM, Digvijay Singh offered his prayers at a temple of Goddess in his home town Raghogarh. He was accompanied by his wife and former journalist, Amrita Rai. Digvijay Singh (77), who hails from the erstwhile royal family of Raghogarh (under Rajgarh), will be up against BJP candidate and two-term sitting MP Rodmal Nagar.

The Congress veteran had become the MP from Rajgarh for the first time in 1984. He had, however, lost it to the BJP’s Pyarelal Khandelwal in 1989 before wresting the seat back from him in 1991. Singh had vacated the seat in 1993 after he was chosen by the Congress as the state’s CM. His younger brother Lakshman Singh then won Rajgarh in a 1994 by-electern and held it until 2009, although later Laxman Singh joined BJP in 2003 and won the seat on its ticket in 2004. In 2009, Lakshman Singh was defeated by the Congress’ Narayan Singh Amlabe and then returned to the Congress in 2013. The BJP bagged Rajgarh constituency for the two consecutive terms (2014 and 2019), and therefore, the party has retained Nagar, an RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) functionary and loyalist of ex-CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan for the third term. He defeated Congress’ Mona Sustani with a margin of over four lakh votes in 2019. After filing nomination, BJP candidate refused stronghold reference for Digvijay Singh saying “Rajgarh is no one’s stronghold’. BJP is making all efforts to retain the seat this time. How seriously ruling party is taking this constituency can be understood with the fact that Rodmal Nagar was accompanied by Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav, BJP State President VD Sharma and former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan .

With all these factors Rajgarh Lok Sabha Seat remains in the headlines. It is believed that the path to Rajgarh is not easy for BJP, but even Digvijay Singh will be surprised to see the confidence of the BJP candidate. After nomination, BJP candidate Rodmal Nagar said that BJP workers stay among the public for 365 days. Voters know all the schemes of the Government. We do not go to the area to contest elections, we always stay in the area. Taking a dig at Digvijay Singh, Nagar said that in democracy there is nothing like stronghold for anyone. This is the stronghold of the people. For a long time, Bharatiya Janata Party and before it Jan Sangh have been winning continuously, that too cannot be denied. Claiming victory, Rodmal Nagar said that there is enthusiasm among the workers and voters towards PM Narendra Modi. We are going among the public on development issues. Rajgarh is called the stronghold of Digvijay Singh. Digvijay Singh is trying his best on this seat. He is on foot march in the Lok Sabha constituency. Along with Digvijay Singh, his son and grandson Sahastrajay Singh are also seen marching. A tough fight is expected on this seat. It will be interesting to see who wins this seat.
