Launched with the much hype some around couple of years ago, the CM Rise SChool scheme, aiming to transform the education sector in the state via bringing government run schools at par with that of private ones is losing its aim. Question of higly advanced facilities e.g. smart classrooms, libraries, laboratories, and sports grounds and importantly, providing highly skilled and dedicated teachers to surpass the quality of education offered by private institutions ( as claimed by government) is far away. A field visit by Hitavada’s reporter reveals that at several places there were ripped blackboards. ‘The Hitavada’ team visited the schools and found that the walls are dilapidated, boundaries are broken, ripped blackboards, dripping rooftops, shortage of water, etc are common problem. Smart digital boards were not even being used by teachers and most of them preferred to take class on traditional blackboards. Projectors were installed in few of classrooms and that too was out of order.

Notably, launched in 2022, the then Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan called the project “new social revolution” and The state government allocated ?2565 crore to construct new buildings for CM Rise schools. Even after passing nearly two years, there is a lot need to take shape on ground. With passing time, governemnt is going on to add more number of schools in this category but the schools that were already included in the city with around 800 students strength still lack basic facility since at many places there were broken windows , diapiladed walls were the common features instead of attractive paintings for tiny toddlers inside the class room. In the year 2023, Madhya Pradesh Government announced to establish around 9000 CM Rise Schools and to augment more facilities including the pick -up and drop at home. Ironically, the facility could not be started yet. The schools were established for those from economically and socially disadvantaged backgrounds but till today they have to shell out money at their own to reach the school premises.

Although there may be some exceptions but it is just a drop in ocean. Since ,there are around 274 CM Rise schools in the state including 8 in Bhopal with more than 2.5 lakhs students and nearly 8000 teachers in these schools, according to official government data. The Government pledged to involve parents, but the implementation of this initiative has fallen short of expectations. On condition of anonymity, teachers and school principals accepted the poor condition. They said that proposal has been sent to the Government officers for further repairing of walls, water crisis and other maintenance related work but all seems to be in vain as there is no response. District Education Officer (DEO) Anjani Kumar Tripathi initially denied to comment over the issue. He said that problems are there in some schools and soon action will be taken to repair the infrastructure related issues. He said CM Rise schools are the moderate version of Government schools and they are providing qualitative education equally to the private convent schools.
