In a shocking incidence, a Gram Rojgar Sahayak (GRS), who already passed away four months back, has been deployed to serve election duty. The deceased GRS, Prayag Kurmi has been deployed in election bus service in route number 1/1 in 101 Panagar constituency during Lok Sabha Elections 2024. What was more pathetic that even after being informed by the deceased’s family, the concerned officers did not bother to removed his name from election duty. The concerned officers even pasted the slip mentioning deceased name and his mobile number in the bus and directed other employees deployed to serve election duty to contact the GRS if they have any issue concerned with the bus service. As per sources, Bus no. 1 is fixed to carry the polling teams to polling centres 4, 5, 14, 15 and 16 established in Panagar Janpad area. GRS, Prayag Kurmi who died four months back, has given the responsibility to carry the polling teams to their respective polling centres.

This careless and insensitive act was highlighted when the deceased’s family received a letter regarding election duty of the departed soul at home. The family members immediately informed the Gram Sachiv and other Janpad-level officers about Kori’s death. Despite which the concerned officers did not removed GRS’s name from election duty.
Even the members of polling teams are in dilemma as the number given to them for bus service, is continuously switched off. When contacted, Chief Executive Officer, Jila Panchayat, Jayati Singh informed that the mistake would be rectified and another employee would be deployed for the election duty.
