Over 350 athletes take part in KIRTI trials

OVER 350 athletes from Ngapur, Amravati, Wardha, Akola, Yavatmal, Buldhana, Seoni, Chhindwara appeared for the selection trials which were held under the Government of India’s Khelo India Rising Talent Identification (KIRTI) initiative on Tuesday at Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University’s Ravi Nagar Sports Campus. The trials were held under the age group of 9 to 18 years. On the first day, the athletes took part in running, throwing and jumping in athletics. Initially, a physical fitness test was conducted followed by 60m sprint, ball throw, shot pit throw (Standing), 600m running. Trials for boys and girls were conducted for running, long jump and high jump. The trials were held on the occasion of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) Centenary festival.
 
Earlier, the trials were inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Dr Subhash Chaudhary, Pro-Chancellor Dr Sanjay Dudhe. On the occasion, Director of Sports and Physical Education Department Dr Sharad Suryawanshi, former director Dr Dhananjay Welukar and Sports Authority of India’s Bhavna Sutar were present. Aditya Soni, Dr Manoj Ambadkar, Dr Vibekanand Singh, Dr Nitin Jangitwar, Dr Amit Tembhurne, Dr Sudhir Sahare, Dr Bharat Mehta, Sayali Waghmare, Archana Kottewar, Ganesh Wani, Nitin Dhabekar were also present. KABADDI TRIALS TODAY The selection trials for kabaddi (boys and girls) will be held on Wednesday from 6 am. Various drills like footwork, hand touch, toe touch, catching abilities will also be conducted for the players.
