Priyanshu Patil created the major upset on the opening day of the MLA Cup All India Open International Rapid Rating Chess Tournament 2024 which got under way at St Vincent Palloti School, Besa Pipala Raod, on Saturday. City’s Patil stunned GM RR Laxman while other Nagpur players including GM Sankalp Gupta, Dishank Bajaj, Siddhant Gawai, CM Vaibhav Raut recorded wins to emerge joint leaders with five ponits after five rounds. Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated by Kamptee MLA Tekchand Sawarkar Rev Fr Joseph Koovely, Principal, StVincent Pallotti School, International Arbiter Swapnil Bansod, Tournament Organising Secretary Sushant Jumde and tournament Organising Committee Member Nilesh Channawar were present on stage. The programme was compered by Shyamsundar Agrwal. International Arbiter Pravin Thakare is the Chief Arbiter of tournament while Amit Tembhurne (FA) is deputy Chief Arbiter. Manthan Kale, Vaibhav Kumbhalkar, Shrikant Bagde are working hard for success of the event.
