NONSENCE

CONGRESS leader Mr. Rahul Gandhi has indulged in the same nonsense again -- by levelling accusations that one person -- Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi -- and one party -- Bharatiya Janata Party -- are trying to abolish India’s Constitution and democracy for the first time in history. It is time, therefore, to remind Mr. Rahul Gandhi that his attempt to distort facts has a criminal and anti-India streak. Of course, each such utterance of Mr. Rahul Gandhi makes a positive difference to the Bharatiya Janata Party and Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi. No matter the statistics that may emerge on June 4, factually, the picture will be one of the clear win for the Prime Minister and his Government and his party. And this assurance stems from the thoughtless statements being made time and again by Opposition leaders and campaigners most consistently. Mr. Rahul Gandhi also needs to be reminded of the truth of India’s contemporary history almost exactly 49 years ago -- on June 26, 1975 -- when his grandmother and the then Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi had crossed all barriers of democratic protocols and slapped Emergency on the country by subverting officially all human and fundamental rights of the people and stalled political process like no one else ever did.

In a truthful contrast, Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi has followed every constitutional norm and form while taking and implementing major decisions that included abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A of the Constitution and withdrew Special Status to Kashmir. He made some epochal legislations possible by following all norms -- like withdrawal of instant triple talaq, for example. The BJP also has won elections and also lost many of those in the past ten years of the Narendra Modi regime -- all as per the constitutional framework. If he had twisted constitutional arrangements to his favour, he would not have lost a single election in the past ten years. That did not happen. Even when the Congress party was accusing the Prime Minister of trying to subvert the Constitution, it was winning elections as well -- as it did in Karnataka and Telangana and Himachal Pradesh. The country also saw many non-BJP parties winning elections in different States and forming Governments as per the norm.

Where does the question arise then about the Prime Minister and the BJP trying to subvert the Constitution and perpetuating their rule ?! In fact, enough evidence is available in the political arena to suggest that it was Congress party that has been toying with the Constitution. But then, who will tell Mr. Rahul Gandhi that he is walking down the wrong path ? This stance by the Opposition is totally wrong and politically-biased -- and planned with the sole aim of winning the Lok Sabha elections by hook and crook. True, many Opposition leaders do realise that they have chosen a wrong path, but cannot wriggle out of the quagmire of their own making. This is, of course, stupidity of the worst order. Yet, Mr. Rahul Gandhi and other Opposition leaders do not seem to realise the blunder they are committing even when the election has already completed first two phases. All that can be said in this regard is that the Opposition leadership is living in its own paradise !
