Leader of Opposition in Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly Dr Charan Das Mahant has given a clarification that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders are misinterpreting his statements, which was made in a public meeting in Rajnandgaon on Tuesday. It may be mentioned that Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader Dr Charan Das Mahant during the election rally in Rajnandgaon on Tuesday said, “We need a man who can look eye to eye and talk to Modi, there is only one person whom you will make an MP, he (Bhupesh Baghel) can stand in front of Modi.” Dr Charan Das Mahant has criticised the BJP for distorting his statement and made it clear that the BJP leaders probably do not have knowledge of the customs and culture of Chhattisgarh. “Hence my simple and pure Chhattisgarhian sentences are being distorted and presented in a wrong manner. I am purely immersed in Chhattisgarhi culture,” he said.

‘In the vernacular style of Chhattisgarh, I sometimes express myself with phrases embedded in the traditional Lakshana-Vyanjna. While common phrases in Chhattisgarhi, such as ‘Lauthi Dhar ke Dauda Na..., Mar Na Tura La...’, flow naturally for locals, those unfamiliar with the customs, language, and culture of Chhattisgarh may misinterpret them, particularly through media representation,” clarified Dr Mahant. Furthermore, Dr Mahant emphasized, “I possess extensive understanding of the Prime Ministerial position, parliamentary traditions, and decorum. Having served as a four-time MP, five-time MLA, Speaker, and Leader of the Opposition, I am deeply committed to upholding constitutional integrity.

I have engaged in personal dialogues with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on numerous occasions, and he is acquainted with me on a personal level.” While sharing a photo with Modi, Dr Mahant said, “When Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat and I was the Union Minister of State for Agriculture in the Government of India, I met him very intimately in a programme organised in Anand, Gujarat. There is no question of making wrong comments on a person who is the Prime Minister not only of BJP but of every Indian. Do not try to spoil the image of Chhattisgarhi like me and relations with top leaders under the guise of petty politics by misrepresenting my feelings,” he added.
