In a joyous and enthusiastic atmosphere, the grand celebration of Baisakhi festival commenced at the Gurudwara Prem Nagar, on Sunday. The saffron flag (Nisan Sahib) of the Khalsa was hoisted along with the community service (kaar seva). Earlier in the morning, under the leadership of Panj Pyare, Nagar Kirtan (religious procession) was carried out. It culminated at the Gurudwara Prem Nagar after passing through Madan Mahal area. On the occasion Kirtan Darbar was organised and langar was distributed.
 
With today’s event, the magnificent beginning of the 10-day Baisakhi festival, which marks the creation of the Khalsa Panth and celebrates the harvest season, has taken place. The Sikh community of the city will celebrate Baisakhi festival with great fervor on April 13th. The inaugural Kirtan Darbar will commence on the night of April 12. Famous Ragi Jattha of Amritsar, Punjab Bhai Gurvinder Singh and Gyani Sahib Singh along with Bhai Brichhpal Singh Barkandi and other scholars will grace the occasion. Colorful cultural programs will be organied on the nights of April 16 and 17.
