Posing as an Air Force officer, a man lured a woman into a trap and extorted money after recording obscene videos of her. Ajni police have registered a case under various sections related to extortion and torture. The accused was identified as Shyam Supatkar, a resident of Hanuman Nagar, near Medical square. He reportedly created a fake Facebook profile under the name Shyam Verma. On May 23, 2020, he sent a friend request to a 36-year-old woman and, upon acceptance, misrepresented himself as an Air Force officer stationed in Gujarat but residing in Hanuman Nagar at Nagpur. Gradually, he manipulated the victim into a false sense of affection and arranged a meeting, said police officials.

Under the guise of meeting, Shyam arrived in a car at Medical square and claimed the presence of a girl in the vehicle as his sister. As the victim entered the car, she was offered a drink laced with sedative. The victim became unconscious after having the drink. Subsequently, she was taken to a makeshift dwelling in the Khapri area, where she was subjected to torture and the recording of obscene videos and photos. Furthermore, her contacts were tampered with, and she was threatened to make the pictures viral on social media and also with her relatives. In a state of fear, the victim complied with demands and provided a ransom of Rs 4.10 lakh in cash along with gold and silver jewelry. Upon learning the true identity of the accused, the victim reported the incident to the police. A case under Sections 376, 376 (2) (n), 384, 385, 341, 452, 323, 504, 506 (2) of Indian Penal Code.
