MANKAPUR Police have booked the driver of the trailer-truck that hit 12 vehicles, including nine cars, an ambulance and two two-wheelers resulting in a major pile-up at Kalpana Talkies Square on Koradi Road Sunday night. Initial reports had stated that a buffalo came onto the road and the driver of the speeding trailer-truck (MH-34/AB-1781) suddenly applied brakes resulting in the vehicle pile-up. On Monday, police confirmed that the driver of the trailer-truck (MH-34/AB-B-1781) was responsible for the vehicle pile-up. The accused driver has been identified as Vikrantsingh Rajendrasingh (25), a resident of district Ballia, Uttar Pradesh.

Investigation revealed that nine cars (MH-34/BR-8511, MH-05/BJ-3861, MH-40/AC-4908, MH-29/P-7777, MH-31/FX-2259, MH-31/FE-8177, MH-49/AS-4940, MH-31/DV-4299 and MH-40/BE-8812), an ambulance (MH-14/CL-1264), and two-wheelers (MH-24/BH-3706 and MH-40/CX-8748) had stopped at the traffic signal near Kalpana Talkies Square around 10.30 pm. Vikrantsingh, who was driving the trailer-truck rashly and at a high speed, lost control of his vehicle and hit the cars, two-wheelers and the ambulance from behind. This led to a multiple vehicle pile-up injuring six persons.

The impact of the collision was so intense that a Maruti Baleno car vaulted over another vehicle. Some of the injured were rushed to Kunal Hospital while others were taken to Mayo Hospital for treatment. Following a complaint lodged by Swapnil Gyaneshwar Wankhede (33), a resident of Plot No 308, Royal Pride Apartment, Arya Nagar, Koradi Road, police registered a case under Sections 279 (Rash driving on a public way), 337 (Causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 338 (Causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code against trailer-truck driver Vikrantsingh and took him into custody.
