THE role ‘Ragas’ have to play is quite significant in the music. Ragas help set the mood of piece of music. Each of specific Ragas in Indian music is strongly linked with specific emotion; be that love, pleasure and pain, sentiment or faith and devotion. Ragas connect hearts and souls, create environment of auspiciousness and propitiousness and make the ambience of multifaceted enriching resonances. ‘Raga Yaman’, the widely loved ‘Hindustani Classical Raga’ prominently known for it’s calming and peaceful attribute. This literally soul enticing ‘Raga’ is mostly associated with the expression of love and spirit of devotion. It’s distinguishing quality awarding the music listeners with peace and tranquility makes it incredibly unique and special. ‘Shuddha Swaras’ (pure tone) is the prime characteristic of which ‘Raga Yaman’ is composed. “Thath – Kalyan” and Vadi – Ga (Gandhaar), ‘Raga Yaman’ is the Raga of Sampoorna jati in which all the Saat Sur are included. Aroha – Avaroha Swar – Nishad, Prakruti – Gambhir. This is how ‘Raag Yaman’ is basically structured. In ‘Raag Yaman’ Khayal, Dhrupad and Tarana are sung. It is also told to be the ‘Janak Raga from Kalyan family’ often sung during the second division of night.
 
With it’s noticeable significance in the creation of classical music and making of light music, ‘Raga Yaman’ holds the extremely important place in the excellently graceful galaxy of music. Any classical ‘Bandish’ being composed in ‘Yaman’, a melodious emotional soulful song created using ‘Yaman’ or a flue played on the tune of ‘Yaman’ gives the heavenly pleasure and peace of mind to the listeners. ‘Raga Yaman’ is so favourite ‘Raga’ of composers of music that it is significantly used in innumerable melodious musical creations by them. Many music directors have been using the enchanting ‘Raga Yaman’ wonderfully to the great effect for producing numerous immensely popular heavenly melodious romantic, emotional and devotional songs. Some of them are: “Jab deep jale aana, jab sham dhale aana.” “Tujh sang bair lagaya aisa, raha na main phir apne jaisa.” “Abhi na jao chhod kar, ke dil abhi bhara nahi.” “Nigahen mila ne ko jee chhata hain.” “Ehsaan tera hoga mujh par.” “Aaj jane ki zid na karo.” “Naam gum jaaega, chehra ye badal jaega, meri aawaj hi pehchan hain gar yaad rahe.” “Ranjish hi sahi, dil hi dukhane ke liye aa.” “Runu zunu runu zunu re bhramara.” And so many enriching melodies have been produced with the effective utilisation of delightful ‘Raga Yaman’.
