Ordnance Factory Ambajhari (OFAj), Nagpur, a production unit of Yantra India Limited (YIL) has achieved a milestone by supplying a consignment of 155mm M-107 shells to a European country first time in its history. OFAj has released this first international consignment of 1 lakh numbers of 155mm M-107 ammunition to the European country recently. This achievement marks a promising start for the new financial year of OFAj towards a foothold in the global defence market. “Earlier we were producing these shells only for the Indian Army but with this consignment we are entered in the global market in the category of 155mm shells,” senior officer of OFAj told The Hitavada on a condition of anonymity.

“We have received more orders of 155mm shells from the same country. The production is going on full-fledgedly in the factory and more consignments will be released soon,” said the officer. “The successful execution of this order paves the way for future export endeavours, solidifying YIL’s position as a key player in the global market,” claimed the senior officer. This Ammunition is used for Ground Target Attack with Mass destruction. It is fired from 155 mm artillery gun like Dhanush and Bofors Gun. The range of the shell is 18 km and it has a shelf life of 15 years.

YIL has strategically scaled up its production of 155mm shells to cater the rising demand of world market. Earlier, YIL was producing only 50,000 to 60,000 shells for the India Army which is now boosted by 1 lakh numbers for the international buyer. In February, Munitions India Limited (MIL), another defence PSU of India, secured an export order of $225 million for 155mm artillery shells from Soudi Arabia. Last year, OFAj supplied a consignment of Pinaka Mk-1 Enhanced Rockets to Armenia. Whereas, Armenia showed interest to purchase more ammunitions from Indian PSUs.
