In the wake of a hit-and-run incident involving a Porsche car driven by an inebriated teenager in Pune, the spotlight is once again on the pubs of Nagpur. City Police have initiated a crackdown on pubs. The cops aim to curb drunk driving and associated unlawful activities. Special teams have been formed for the drive. The members of the team, in plain clothes, will visit pubs and prepare a report for further action.Under the new plan, police officials are closely monitoring activities both inside and outside pubs, particularly observing whether the pub customers are driving under the influence of alcohol. Nagpur boasts a staggering 375 pubs and bars, though the precise count of only pubs is not available.

 

Areas such as Dharampeth, Shivaji Nagar, Sonegaon, Pratap Nagar, and Sitabuldi, under the jurisdiction of Ambazari Police Station, are noted hotspots for pub density. Concerns have emerged over alleged drug distribution alongside alcohol in select establishments. Top rank police officials have noted the issue and directed action against the pubs. Among the notorious pubs, Dabo on Wardha road has repeatedly made headlines due to frequent altercations attracting police attention. Notably, incidents such as a brutal assault on a family, including a woman, and a violent altercation due tp misconduct against a woman have occurred here. Further adding to the list of concerns are pubs like Agent Jack and Warehouse in VR Mall near Medical square, which have garnered notoriety for their involvement in serious altercations.
