A CAR driven recklessly by drunk youngsters went
berserk in the crowded
Mahal area near Natraj
talkiej. On Friday night, a
Mahindra Logan car ran over
the crowd including motorcyclists caused chaos in the
busy market area.
A woman, her threemonth-old child, and a man
were seriously injured in the
accident. The occupants of
the car were found intoxicated, and the police have
seized beer bottles and marijuana (ganja) from the vehicle.
The accident reminded people of the recent Porsche
car accident reported in Pune, in which two youngsters were killed when
the recklessly driven car by a
drunk teenager mowed them
down. According to the police,
the car was speeding from the
Aaychit Mandir area while
crossing Natraj talkies. The
driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with pedestrians. After hitting the pedestrians, the driver accelerated the
car in an attempt to flee the
scene and collided with other
vehicles. Three persons were
seriously injured, while four
sustained minor injuries.

Vice-President and resident of
the area, informed that the car
driver was caught by the public while two others attempted to escape. They were chased
and handed over to the police
by the locals. Angered by the
accident, residents smashed
the windshield of the car and
slapped the occupants.
Staff from the Kotwali Police
Station rushed to the spot and
transported the intoxicated
individuals in a police jeep.The
accused have been identified
as Sunny Chavan, Anshul
Dhale, and their friend, all residents of the Imambada area.
The police have seized three
beer bottles and ganja from
the vehicle.
DCP Zone III Gaurav Bhamre
stated that the injured persons
have been admitted to a hospital. The woman sustained a
fractured leg in the accident,
and the three-month-old child
is under observation by the
doctors, he said. The accused
were sent for medical examination late in the night.
