With commencement of ‘Nautapa’ on Saturday, the maximum temperature across Vidarbha has started increasing. Akola, which is constantly witnessing highest maximum temperature since the onset of summer this year, was the hottest place in Maharashtra on Saturday with 45.60 C. Yavatmal recorded its highest maximum temperature of the season, so far, with 45.50 C and was the second hottest place in the State. With maximum temperature remaining above 450 C, heat wave condition will prevail in both the districts on May 26 as well. Nagpur district also faced extreme summer scorching heat. On Saturday, the maximum temperature in Nagpur city was 41.70 C. The day temperature was unbearable as most roads in the city wore a deserted look, specially in the afternoon.
 
Amravati, Brahmapuri and Wardha were recorded maximum temperature above 440 C while it was 430 C in Chandrapur and Washim. ‘Nautapa’, during which the summer heat reaches its peak for nine days, started on Saturday. The extreme weather will prevail till June 2. Like the maximum temperature, the night temperature all over Vidarbha, too, was on the higher side. The minimum temperature in Akola also was the highest in the State, at 32.70 C followed by Washim (30.20 C). Other places in Vidarbha recorded minimum temperature above 260 C, on Saturday.
 
With high temperature, presence of moisture in the atmosphere was causing more discomfort to the citizens. Bhandara, Brahmapuri, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia and Washim recorded the relative humidity above 50%. According the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there is no respite from scorching summer heat which is accompanied with humidity all over Vidarbha for the next week too. The weatherman advises citizens to stay hydrated and minimise sun exposure to avoid heat-related issues. It also instructed to wear lightweight, light-coloured, loose, cotton clothes and cover head with cloth, hat or umbrella.
