Ujjwal Nikam, 26/11 prosecutor and BJP candidate from Mumbai North Central Lok Sabha constituency hit out at Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar on Monday for his remarks in connection with the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack. Wadettiwar, the Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly, on Sunday, stirred a controversy by claiming that former Mumbai ATS chief Hemant Karkare was “not killed by terrorists during the 26/11 attack but by a police official close to Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh”. Nikam dismissed the claims by the Congress leader calling them “baseless” and alleged that the latter just wants to do “Goebbels’ propaganda” making references to Joseph Goebbels who was Hitler’s aide and Nazi Party chief propagandist. “What allegations are you making? What will Pakistan say? Pakistan has never denied this because we produced judicial proof. But our man is doing politics. You just want to do propaganda - that too Goebbels’ propaganda. This doesn’t defame Nikam. It defames you,” Nikam said while speaking to ANI on Monday.

BJP writes to ECI seeking action against Wadettiwar: The BJP has written to the Election Commission of India seeking action against the Congress and its leader Vijay Wadettiwar for allegedly peddling lies and defaming the party’s Mumbai North Central nominee and lawyer Ujjwal Nikam. His allegations were based on the book ‘Who Killed Karkare’ written by retired police officer S M Mushriff.

Wadettiwar's statement unfortunate, insult to martyrs: CM Shinde: Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Monday termed Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar’s statement on the killing of top police officer Hemant Karkare in the 26/11 terror attack of 2008 as unfortunate and an insult to those who got martyred while protecting the nation. Addressing a press conference, Shinde said, “The statement is unfortunate. It is an insult to martyrs. The citizens of the nation will take revenge for such an insult.”

Congress speaking Pakistan’s language, says Fadnavis: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday accused Congress of speaking “Pakistan’s language”, amid a row over party leader Vijay Wadettiwar’s allegation that an RSS-affiliated policeman and not terrorist Ajmal Kasab killed then ATS chief Hemant Karkare. Addressing a campaign rally in Shirur city in Pune district, Fadnavis recalled the tweet of a Pakistani minister supporting Rahul Gandhi. “As there was less support for the alliance of Rahul Gandhi and Sharad Pawar, a tweet was made from Pakistan wherein Minister Fawad Chaudhry stated that India should be led by Rahul Gandhi,” Fadnavis said.
