The arrested pharmaceutical company owner Govindan Ranganathan was produced in Parasia Court and sent to 10-days police remand for further investigation in Chhindwara cough syrup tragedy that has claimed over 23 lives. Police produced Govindan Ranganathan before the Parasia Court on Friday.
 
During the court proceedings, there was an attempt to attack him, as enraged locals and lawyers demanded death penalty for the accused. Ranganathan was presented before First Class Judicial Magistrate Shailendra Uikey, who remanded him to police custody for 10 days. Earlier,
 
a Special Investigation Team (SIT) set up by Madhya Pradesh Government brought Ranganathan to Parasia, after which he was kept at Parasia Police Station. The cough syrup linked to the deaths was manufactured by Ranganathan’s company, Sresan Pharmaceuticals. Consumption of this syrup reportedly led to deaths of 23 children across Chhindwara, Betul and Pandhurna districts while several others are still undergoing treatment in Nagpur.
